Well, i'm done teaching for the day. I got about 2 1/2 hours in at the studio today and will hit it again after dinner and the kids are in bed (long day).

I took the metronome down to 100 bpm with 16ths notes and saw some slop in my technical exercises. I'll hit those again tonight at 90 and work back up to 100.  Trills, wow - i was sucking wind after about 30 seconds (even less on 3+4 finger combo). This is one exercise where you do not "push through the pain". I'll look to add a few seconds every day until I hit my 1 minute target for each finger set. My tone was good on both the hammer and pull off. Vibrato was weak on 1/2 step bend to the target note. Will review that tonight as well.

So, did anything go well you may be asking? Yes, mode studies were very solid at all positions and with interval and string skipping patterns. Reading was solid, but then again, i didn't have the most challenging material. Arpeggios really picked up after the focus from last night. Ear training and pitch matching were solid as well. Started "Fall" by Wayne Shorter - the harmony will take some time to get to my ear (more on this tomorrow).

You know, it still amazes me after all these years how much you can discover, and rediscover, every time you sit down to really learn your craft. With my maj 7 and min 7 arpeggios today, I came up with several fingerings that I have not played before (on top of all my inversions). This is why music can be a lifetime passion, you'll never run out of things to do.

Well, i'm off. Have some review and written work to do tonight. Didn't get the to bass lines today, will hit those early tomorrow.
