Practice Journal - Day 5

I've never noticed, but practicing on a Friday afternoon is challenging. As I'm practicing, i'm thinking "where are we going to go for dinner tonight?", "can we find a babysitter for Dyllan so that we can take the older kids to see Shrek", "what's that smell?", etc, etc, etc,
As I catch myself drifting from guitar to other thoughts, I always "try" to reign myself back into the proper mindset. Sometimes I can, other times I have difficulty.
I did a quick Google search on improving your ability to focus and/or concentrate. The usual mix of homegrown solutions and self-help guides popped up. I read through a few, and while they certainly had some valid points, I didn't see anything that really jumped out at me (except for one article on polyphasic sleep - very interesting).
So, long story short, over the next week, I'm going to try to figure out a method that works best for ME to help in keeping my focus. Right now, I'm thinking shorter sessions (15-20 minutes) tied to my goals, with breaks that keep me from getting totally distracted (i.e. myspace, music forums, etc), maybe some physical activity to get the blood flowing (walking, jumping jacks, etc). As always, i'll post what works, what doesn't.
If anyone has any ideas, or suggestions, let me know.
See you tomorrow!
