Today is one of my busiest days in the studio (14 students) so I did not get much time to practice today. There is always tonight though!!!
Working with the harmonic minor scale, stock maj7 and min chords are sounding a bit dull, so I decided to find some grips that used open strings, especially intervals that would give me a 9th or 11th chords. I found two grips that were cool to my ears and worked well with A harmonic minor...
Am9/E Dm9
E----0---------- E-----0-------
B----0---------- B-----5-------
G----5---------- G-----9-------
D----7---------- D-----7-------
A----7---------- A-----5-------
E----0---------- E--------------
The Dm9 grip may take some time to get under your fingers, but the open E drone on both chords works well with strum or single note rhythms.
Other than that, I didn't get much in today. I'll try to hit some technique and more scale work tonight at home. If not, I'll be here bright and early tomorrow and will pick up then!
