Interval - the distance between one pitch and another

Half-Step - 1 fret
Whole-Step - 2 frets

Diatonic Intervals - notes within the diatonic major scale

5 Interval Types
Major
Minor
Perfect
Diminished
Augmented

Simple intervals
Intervals within one octave

Compound Intervals
Intervals greater than an octave

Counting Simple/Compound intervals

Intervals C - C

C=Root
Db = minor second
D = Major second
Eb = minor third or D# augmented second
E = Major third
F = Perfect forth
Gb = diminished fifth or F# augmented forth
G = Perfect fifth
Ab = minor sixth or G# augmented fifth
A = Major sixth
Bb = minor seventh or A# augmented sixth
B = major seventh
C = Octave
