Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running round
Butterflies and zebras
And moonbeams and fairy tales
Thats all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind.

When Im sad, she comes to me
With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free
Its alright she says its alright
Take anything you want from me, anything
Anything.

Fly on little wing,
Yeah yeah, yeah, little wing
Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing

37 years ago today, one of the most creative and influential musicians of our time, Jimi Hendrix, passed away.

When you look back, Jimi was not the fastest nor the most technical guitarist we've known. He wasn't known for being able to cross multiple genres like classical, jazz, pop, country, etc. He was primarily a blues and rock guitar player with a healthy does of R&B thrown in.

What set Jimi apart was his creativity and musical style. No one since has been as groundbreaking as he has on the instrument.  Lyrically, he was just as good - his songs are a mix of great guitar playing, lyrics bursting with imagery and of course, some good rocking tunes!

Here are some of my favorite Hendrix tunes. If you haven't heard them, check them out!

Angel
Dolly Dagger
Little Wing
Third Stone from the Sun
Crosstown Traffic
(gotta love Jimi playing a kazoo!!!!)
Freedom
All along the watchtower
(this gets me going every time)

So take a moment today, plug your guitar in, tweak your amp knobs or effects and make a strange noise in honor of Jimi

Today is my birthday, and I had no idea I shared this day with the end of Jimi's life. In his honor, I will play a very rockin' and distorted 'Star spangled banner' I hope you will hear me! Rock on!
