Christmas gifts for the musician in your family...Gig Bags

Well, since we're knocking on the Christmas door, I thought I would build on my recent blog entries on gifts for you or the musician in your family.
Gig bags are a great gift and something I'm hoping Santa will bring me this year. When I get a new gig bag, I always make sure it has nice, thick padding to offer some protection to the instrument, as well as amply pocket space for cords, effects, straps, books, etc. How it looks comes last, unless it is a Hello Kitty Gig Bag, which rules!
Seriously though, most gig bags are black, followed by a recent trend of tweed "like" gig bags. And for all of you out there that want to make a statement, they also make designer gig bags!
In addition to padding and pockets, one of the things that makes a gig bag preferable to a hard case is the ease in which you can carry it. Most gig bags come with shoulder straps. Many are also equipped with double shoulder straps so that you can carry it like a backpack. This is especially nice when you're carrying your amp.
So, if your little guitar player has talked about how heavy there case is, or worse, taken their guitar out in no case, it's time to think about getting a gig bag!
