Eric Clapton's Crossroads Blues Festival
Subscribe to my feed! It’s free, easy to do and makes me happy!
Many of you have heard of Eric Clapton...Scratch that, EVERYONE has heard of Eric Clapton! And if you haven't, go play 10 minor pentatonics, 5 blues scales and an blues shuffle in E!

You've probably heard of some of the bands he's been a part of...
John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers
The Yardbirds
Cream
If you've listened to the radio in, oh, the last 40 years, you've heard Eric Clapton.
What you may not have heard recently is that Eric established the Crossroads Centre, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.
To bring in funding for the center, Eric auctioned off some of the most historic guitars of our time. One of the most famous, as well as the most expensive guitar in the world, Blackie, was auctioned for $959,500 big ones!!!

Now, since most of us cannot afford to buy such heavenly toys, many offered their support for this cause by attending the 2004 and 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival.
One of my students attended this years concerts and reported it lived up to its hype. Great players and great music.
So, where does that put those of use that did not attend? Well, rest assured, both concerts are on video. I've got both and I could watch them over and over.
PBS also has some great online content for both concerts....

Ok, with that everyone, I'm officially announcing the start of our "Bring the next Crossroads Festival to Little Rock, Arkansas!"
Meetings will be held every Thursday at my place until we accomplish this most important task. I'll bring the cheese dip!!!

The DVD of the 07 Crossroads festival is available. As someone lucky enough to have been there, I tell you the only really major performance missing from the DVD is Jeff Beck's " Day in the Life." The film is a very good sampling of a wondrous experience for any guitar lover.

I saw some of the Jeff Beck footage on the PBS show.
One of the songs, " Cause we've ended as lovers" had an awesome bass solo by Tal Wilkenfeld.
IG Blog posted a great entry on Tal that shows another clip of her playing at a bass clinic. It's amazing to think of the chops and tone this girl has at such a young age! Hopefully we'll hear much more from her in the future.
Check it out!

She nearly stole the show! Her bass playing was amazing through the whole one-hour set, and her chops are truly astounding. Plus, she always looks like she's having fun, except she makes some really excruciating "bass-fass"--or is it "bace-face?"

Hmm, I'll have to go with Bass-Fass...
Ok, someone use that for a band name now!
Oh wait ... someone already has
