Summer is just a few months away.... YAY!!!
Ronda B. provided some good information on an Arkansas Day camp, June 23 - July 3 (with a weekend break June 28-29), for children in grades 8 - 9 that is designed around the science of music.
Here is a description of the camp....
SCIENCE OF MUSIC DAY CAMP
Grades 8-9. Tuition: $400
The Science of Music Day Camp will provide a safe learning environment in which students will investigate the mathematics and science involved in designing, building, and playing a mandolin, guitar, or dulcimer. At the end of the nine-day Science of Music Day Camp, students will have gained an appreciation and understanding of advanced mathematics and science topics, be able to demonstrate this understanding, will have built a musical instrument, and will be able to play their instrument. This camp will be 9 days in length and be taught by ASMSA Science and Humanities Faculty.
So, after nine days, the kids will have learned how to build and play their own instrument. Why was this not around when I was a kid!
The day camp is in Hot Springs at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA). You can read more information at their website, asmsa.net/ . Once at the website, click on the Outreach tab and select Summer Day Camps.
Student requirements and application forms are provided at the bottom of the page.
Parents, if you are interested in this and are thinking about registering your children, let me know.
We have several out of town students so we may be able to work up a car pool or something similar (so everyone doesn't have to buy hotel rooms or drive to Hot Springs every day).
