Mike Stern is bad...
In case you missed it, let me say it again, Mike Stern is one bad cat.
You probably don't know who he is, right?
That's not a slam on you, but just a fact of life. Mike is in the jazz-fusion-rock vein of players and as such, doesn't get any play on radio outside of your local NPR stations during their Jazz shows. (Thanks, Clear Channel !!!) (sarcasm folks)...
He's put out several "must have" albums as a solo artist, but he's also played and recorded with monsters like Miles Davis, Jaco, Scofield, Michael Brecker and John Pattituci to name just a few.
So, to hip you to some fine playing, and to inspire you to go practice, we're doing a Guitar Face and a video of Mr. Stern.

Hey Jason. I just wanted to say thanks for the Guitar Face of Mike Stern and the vid. I met Mike last summer at the Montreal Jazz Festival and he was a great guy. We even jammed for about 2 hours in his hotel room which was a trip and a half. I have an interview with Mike on my site at www.jazzguitarlife.com if you are interested in checking it out. I checked out the article - very cool. Seems like he is a real laid back guy (who absolutely owns the guitar - if we were all so lucky!)

Ive never heard of him yet. Do you have samples of his songs so we can listed and check if he is really a bad cat?

Hey Jason, you really kindled the music fanatic in me and the video was superb…as you said Mike is really a bad cat! IMO, he is simply a roaring lion who will give all the other guitarists a run for their money! I just can’t wait to lay my hands on his albums and if it is a solo the more the better! Where was this music enigma hidden all this while! Anyway, nice to see him rocking his way into the music world.
