Great site for all you jazz cats out there...
Subscribe to my feed! It’s free, easy to do and makes me happy!
Here is a must see site for anyone that is studying jazz and/or those that would love to know more about their favorite jazz tunes.
Jazz Standards.com provides composer and song information on hundreds of jazz tunes. They break down the inspiration behind the song, how it was composed, when it was released, a musical analysis of the changes and modulations and a place where musicians can make their own comments about the piece.
The musician comments were especially interesting. You can see how others approach the tune, both in their learning (analysis) and interpretation of the song.
Another interesting spin is that they show recommended versions of the song by different artists. For example, don't like the Fats Waller version of Honeysuckle Rose? No problem, check out Django's version on his "All Star Recordings" disc. This is useful if you're looking for how guitar players approach tunes that were composed or arranged for horns.
So, if you're into jazz or wanting to check things out, Jazz Standards.com is a great site to start!

I freakin' love that site. I go there whenever I feel like learning a new standard. Questionable as their rankings may be, it still gives me a list of must-know tunes. And with Rhapsody or another subscription music service, I can instantly listen to every recording they mention.
