You may have heard of Pop music, Jazz, Blues, Agro (well, maybe not Agro), but how many of you know about Indie Music?
No, I'm not talking about music made in New Delhi, i'm talking about independent music ... music created and distributed without the help of a major label like Warner Brothers or Sony.
Either way, whether you're a Indie noob or a guru that can talk about the members of Boyce Avenue and how each member likes to lay tracks down, you need to check out the indie music blog!
For the newer readers, start with indie music history to get up to speed.
My fav, label bashing, hips you to some of the secrets that the labels don't want you to know. One of our own instructors, David Dunavant, can tell you some stories as well ... just show up early for the lesson so that you can hear it all and still get some guitar playing in.
Now, don't think that because indie music is not handled by a major label that it is not as good as what you hear on Clear Channel (yeah, that's the stuff - NOT). There is some really good music out there. Hit up the indie music reviews to check a few bands out. Help support those you like by downloading their tunes (and paying for them - come on, it's only a few bucks). This way, 10 years from now when they are on a major label and touring the world, you can say "I knew them when they were making records out of their mama's basement". LOL
On a side note, software and hardware today make it very easy to record your own music. With a minimal investment in some good mics, some recording software and a computer interface, you too can be on your way to becoming an indie artist.
