Hey Mike, my first "real" guitar that I bought myself was a Charvel model 4. (sacked groceries all summer to save up the money for it)
Loved it - and foolishly sold it to buy a Tele several years later.
I've already told my wife that when I have my mid-life crisis, I won't buy a sports car - i'm going to buy back all of my guitars that I sold! LOL

I'm just west of DFW - close enough to get what I need, far enough for comfort.
The music scene here is pretty limited. There are plenty of bands/musicians around, but a decidedly wretched lack of good places to pay. It gets better as you go east and get into Dallas, of course. And things are starting to get better out this way as establishment owners are realizing folks are willing to head east. Best to keep them close to home, right? Somehow, all three of the bands I play in manage to find enough gigs to keep me going.
Bass. Yamaha TRB1004 is my main axe.
I'll work on resuscitating Bass-ically Speaking soon. Let me get to the other side of SxSW first.
